This is No Normal Publication.
Writing a play is messy, uncertain, and chaotic—especially if you’re not a writer.
This play will be about one of America’s most brilliant intellectuals (and I’m no genius).
Nearly 1,000 people donated $150,000 to see it happen.
I have no idea how I’m going to pull it off.
Becoming Thomas Sowell is your unfiltered look into the struggle and chaos of bringing America’s most anticipated play to life—from creation to production.
Although I’ve tackled Shakespeare’s most enduring characters and starred opposite Tony Award winners, bringing Thomas Sowell to the stage is the greatest challenge I’ve ever faced as an artist.
I’ll be grappling with big questions: Why does Sowell’s story matter now? What parts of his life will make the final cut? And, crucially:
How will I transform into a man whose ideas have influenced generations of Americans?
Over the course of 18 months, I’ll be exploring these questions—and you’ll be there for every step.
The current roadmap (as outlined in the original Indiegogo campaign):
1. Create first draft.
2. Revise, rewrite, and workshop.
3. Seek out theatres for live production.
4. Once the play has been honed before audiences, film the production and post online.
As a subscriber, you’re stepping into the process with me.
For $10/month (or $100 for the year) you’ll get:
Facts about Sowell you may not have known
Early and exclusive access to new script pages/edits
Essays pulled directly from my notebooks and research
My raw, unedited vlogs as I continue building the project
Behind the scenes rehearsal, workshop and performance footage
And once we move into performances, you’ll be the first to know when, where, and for how long.
At THE STATE OF THE ARTS I stress the importance of creating new culture—not reminiscing on what was, or dumping on what is.
Becoming Thomas Sowell is your front row seat (and backstage pass) to watch that creation in action.
